US Market Wrap

The stock market recently saw a rally that brought it close to its all-time highs. However, the upward momentum has stalled as investors are cautious ahead of the Federal Reserve's upcoming decision on interest rates. The uncertainty surrounding the Fed's decision is making investors hesitant, limiting further gains in the market.

US futures were little changed after the S&P 500 climbed 0.1% in the previous session. The yield on 10-year Treasuries rose three basis points to 4.1% on Thursday, the dollar fluctuated. The S&P 500 closed near 6,860. The Russell 2000 added 0.8%, reports Bloomberg.

Asian Market Wrap

Asian stocks are falling in early trading due to a weak performance on Wall Street the previous day, which particularly affected tech stocks and bonds. The decline is also driven by investors waiting for the release of key US inflation data later on Friday, which could impact the market. The MSCI index for regional shares has dropped 0.6%, with Japanese indexes leading the declines after a strong rally in the previous session.

Hang Seng futures fell 0.2% while Japan’s Topix fell 1.1%. The Japanese yen was little changed at 155.15 per dollar while the the offshore yuan was little changed at 7.0694 per dollar, reports Bloomberg.

Commodity Check

Silver was steady after retreating from an all-time high earlier in the week as traders took profits from a rally that’s seen as overheated. The white metal was trading at around $57.05 an ounce, having fallen more than 2% in the previous session to snap an eight-day winning streak.

Silver edged down 0.2% to $57.0225 an ounce as of 7:45 a.m. Singapore time. Gold was steady at $4,205.13, while platinum and palladium were also little changed, reports Bloomberg.

Oil held a two-day advance as investors weighed the next steps for talks on a ceasefire in Ukraine, and signs of a swelling surplus. West Texas Intermediate traded near $60 a barrel after closing 1.2% higher on Thursday. Brent settled above $63, as reported by Bloomberg.
