Good Morning!

The GIFT Nifty is trading marginally higher near 26,051 indicating a flat to positive open for the benchmark Nifty 50.

US and European index futures are trading lower during Asian trading hours.

  • S&P 500 futures trade down 0.33%
  • Euro Stoxx 50 futures down 0.18%

Market Recap

Indian equity benchmarks extended gains for a third straight session amid the F&O expiry, tracking positive global cues. The BSE Sensex closed over 200 points to end near 84,300, while the NSE Nifty 50 settled 0.3% higher at 25,935.15. Both the benchmark indices were led by the gains in Eternal, L&T and ICICI Bank.

US Market Wrap

Traders on Wall Street pushed Treasury prices higher ahead of a major employment report, after disappointing retail‑sales data strengthened expectations that the Federal Reserve could cut rates later this year. Even so, those hopes weren't enough to send the S&P 500 to a new record, and Bitcoin fell sharply, as reported  by Bloomberg.

Yields on 10‑year Treasuries slid to their lowest level in nearly a month, while money‑market traders increased the probability of three Fed rate cuts in 2026—two of which are already fully reflected in current pricing. Around 300 stocks in the S&P 500 advanced, but losses among several large tech companies caused the index to lose momentum.

Asian Market Check

Asian equities hovered near their record levels on Wednesday as investors awaited key US employment data. Softer US retail‑sales figures earlier had strengthened expectations that the Federal Reserve may trim interest rates later in the year, as reported  by Bloomberg.

The MSCI Asia Pacific Index was largely flat after two consecutive days of gains that pushed it to a new peak. The region's muted performance followed a pullback in major US stock benchmarks on Tuesday.

Commodity Check

Gold edged higher, holding comfortably above the $5,000‑an‑ounce mark, as soft US retail‑sales data strengthened expectations for Federal Reserve rate cuts. The metal gained up to 0.6% after finishing Tuesday's session slightly lower. The unexpected pause in consumer spending during December added to anticipation surrounding Wednesday's delayed January employment report, as per Bloomberg reports.

Oil prices also advanced, driven by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East — particularly developments involving Iran — which overshadowed US industry data indicating a significant build in crude inventories.

West Texas Intermediate climbed past $64 a barrel after a modest decline the previous day, while Brent hovered near $69. Traders weighed several reports, including one suggesting the US may seize tankers carrying Iranian crude, and another indicating that Washington could deploy an additional aircraft carrier strike group to the region if talks over Iran's nuclear program break down, as reported  by Bloomberg.

Key Events To Watch

  • RBI to conduct 340 billion rupees of T-bill auctions.
  • IPOs of Aye Finance and Fractal Analytics to close.
