Notably, India VIX jumped over 12%, indicating high volatility in the Indian stock markets. Nifty 50 advance decline ratio stood at 2:48.
The selloff in the Indian stock market today was triggered by deteriorating global geopolitical conditions and a surge in crude oil prices. Rising US Treasury yields and caution ahead of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI)'s likely repo rate hike in the upcoming monetary policy also intensified selling pressure.
Crude oil prices rose after after US President Donald Trump rejected Iran's peace proposal aimed at ending the Middle East conflict and reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Last checked, Brent Crude Oil was trading 1.72% higher at $99.12 a barrel.

Stock Market LIVE: Silver Prices Crash By Over Rs 7,000, White Metal Slips Below Rs 2,28,000
Silver prices crashed on the Multi Commodity Exchange on Monday, with the white metal falling more than Rs 7,000 and slipping below the key Rs 2,28,000 level.
The sharp decline in domestic silver prices comes amid a broader sell-off in precious metals as rising oil prices have intensified inflation concerns and strengthened expectations of further interest-rate hikes by the US Federal Reserve.
MCX silver has slipped below the Rs 2,32,000 - Rs 2,33,000 zone, which had earlier acted as support and is now likely to act as resistance. The metal is testing the Rs 2,27,000 -Rs 2,28,000 support region, which coincides with its 200-day exponential moving average.
According to Ponmudi R, CEO of Enrich Money, immediate resistance is seen at Rs 2,32,000–Rs 2,33,000, followed by Rs 2,36,000–Rs 2,37,000. On the downside, support is placed at Rs 2,27,000–Rs 2,28,000, followed by Rs 2,23,000–Rs 2,24,000.
The Relative Strength Index, or RSI, at 41.12 and below its signal line indicates fading momentum, Ponmudi said. A sustained move above Rs 2,32,000 would be needed to stabilise the structure, while a decisive break below Rs 2,28,000 could open the way towards Rs 2,24,000.

Stock Market LIVE: Financials May Face More Pressure As Higher Global Yields, Weaker Rupee Hurt Valuations, Says Pranay Aggarwal
The sharp fall in the market was mainly driven by global concerns. Brent crude rose above $106 after the US rejected Iran’s proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, increasing India’s oil import and inflation risks. The US 10-year yield near 5.2% also added pressure on emerging markets. Foreign investors have started selling again after buying in July and August. After seven consecutive weekly declines, these factors triggered a broad market sell-off, said Pranay Aggarwal, Director & CEO, Stoxkart.
Continued FPI selling could keep large-cap stocks under pressure, as foreign investors hold significant stakes in major Nifty and Sensex companies. More foreign selling can also put pressure on the rupee, which is already near 96 per dollar, he added.
According to him, rate-sensitive sectors such as banks, NBFCs and other financial stocks may face more pressure as higher global yields and a weaker rupee can hurt valuations. Autos and other fuel-heavy businesses could also be affected if crude prices remain high. Metals and some oil-marketing companies may stay under pressure due to higher costs. Pharma and healthcare may perform relatively better as investors prefer stable sectors, but weak global spending could limit gains.

-
Sachin Gupta, Vice President Research at Choice Broking, said Indian equities remain under pressure after the Sensex slipped below 73,300 and the Nifty fell below 23,000, weakening market sentiment and increasing selling pressure.
-
Gupta said Brent crude, trading above $103 per barrel, remains a key concern for India due to the country's dependence on imported oil. Higher crude prices could increase the import bill, weigh on the rupee and raise inflation risks.
-
He added that elevated US Treasury yields are making fixed-income investments more attractive globally and could affect foreign investment flows into emerging markets.
-
According to Gupta, FII selling, geopolitical uncertainty in the Middle East, and the breakdown of key technical support levels are contributing to the weakness in Indian equities.
-
He said the breach of the Sensex 73,300 and Nifty 23,000 levels is technically significant and could result in further volatility if the indices fail to reclaim these levels.
