Indian equity benchmarks ended marginally lower, halting a three-day gaining streak as losses in HDFC Bank and Infosys offset gains in State Bank of India and Reliance Industries. The BSE Sensex ended about 100 points lower, while the NSE Nifty ended at 25,942.90.
Thirteen out of 15sectoral gauges compiled by NSE ended higher, led by the NSE Nifty Auto Index's 1.3% gain. On the flipside, the NSE Nifty IT Index was the top sectoral loser, down 1.8%.
The market breadth was tilted in favour of sellers. About 2,247 stocks declined and 1,975 stocks advanced on the NSE.
Elsewhere around the world, US equity index futures edged higher late Tuesday as markets awaited the January US jobs report, which is scheduled for release on Wednesday morning. S&P 500 futures and Nasdaq 100 futures were both up about 0.2%, while Dow futures added around 85 points, also roughly 0.2%.
Traders are focused on the Bureau of Labor Statistics' January nonfarm payrolls report, which was pushed back due to the partial US government shutdown that ended on Feb. 3.
The Indian rupee ended 12 paise lower at 90.70 against the US dollar.

LTIMindtree said on Wednesday that its board has approved changing name to LTM Ltd. from LTIMindTree Ltd.
"Securities Transaction Tax (STT) has been increased many times in previous budgets, and this time also it has been increased, specifically with respect to equity futures and equity options... Overall, the government has a perspective as they want to reduce speculations in the market, and this is one of the ways to do so," said NSE Chairman Ashish Kumar Chauhan.

European equities opened mixed on Wednesday, as investors assessed another round of corporate earnings, with no clear, broad-based move across major markets or sectors. The pan-European STOXX Europe 600 was little changed, down 0.10% at 620.32.

Edtech firm PhysicsWallah shares fell below the IPO issue price, reversing gains seen after listing. The stock traded at Rs 108.44 on Wednesday, compared with its IPO issue price of Rs 143.10 per share, according to data from the Bombay Stock Exchange.
The stock has slipped below its listing level despite growth in earnings.

Important companies that will announce the results for the third quarter on Feb. 11 include Lenskart, Ashok Leyland, Mahindra & Mahindra, Divi's Laboratories, Bayer CropScience and IRCON International. Some of these companies may also announce dividends. Several of them have also declared the schedule for their earnings call to discuss the results for Q3FY26.
