Stock Market Highlights: Sensex, Nifty Erase Intraday Gains To Close Lower For Second Day

On NSE, nine out of the 15 sectors ended in the red, with Nifty PSU Bank, Metal and Realty declining the most.

The Indian benchmark equity indices erased the intraday gains to close lower for the second consecutive day on Thursday, dragged by share prices of Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. and Bharti Airtel Ltd.

The NSE Nifty 50 ended 48.1 points or 0.19% lower at 25,405.30, while the BSE Sensex closed 170.22 points or 0.2% down at 83,239.47. During the day, Nifty fell 0.27% to trade at 25,384.35 and Sensex declined 0.27% to 83,186.74.

Shares of Dr. Reddy Laboratories Ltd., Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd. and Hero MotoCorp were among the top gainers in the Nifty.

State Bank of India, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Bajaj Finserv Ltd. and JSW Steel Ltd. were among the biggest laggards.

In terms of points contribution, Infosys Ltd. and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. were among the stocks that led the gains in the Nifty.

The broader market indices settled mixed as the BSE MidCap declined 0.08% and SmallCap gained 0.43%.

The market breadth was skewed in the favour of sellers as 1,982 stocks advanced, 2,017 declined and 156 remained unchanged on the BSE
