Stock Market Highlights: Nifty, Sensex Extend Gains To Third Session To Close Nearly Half Percent Up

Indian benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty 50 continued their upward trajectory to close higher for the third consecutive trading session on Wednesday.

Nifty 50 closed 0.47%, or 108.65 points higher at 23,437. While, the Sensex closed 0.40% or 309.40 points higher at 77,044.

The global market continued to see some volatility, as US escalated tariff conflict with China by announcing 245% tariff on Chinese imports.

Shares of Axis Bank Ltd., HDFC Bank Ltd., Bharti Airtel Ltd., ITC Ltd. and ICICI Bank Ltd. positively contributed to changes in the Nifty 50.

While those of Infosys Ltd., Larsen & Toubro Ltd., Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. and NTPC Ltd. were among those that negatively contributed to the change.

As benchmark indices ended with gains, 13 out of 15 indices on the NSE ended with gains. Among the top gainers was Nifty PSU Bank which surged 2.34%, followed by Nifty Media which gained 1.77% and Nifty Bank which rose 1.4%.

The only two indices that ended in the red were Nifty Auto and Pharma as they declined 0.42% and 0.21%, respectively.

In broader market, BSE MidCap and SmallCap outperformed the benchmark BSE Sensex as they rose 0.60% and 0.90%, respectively.

On BSE, only two sectoral indices out of 21 ended with losses. BSE Oil and Gas surged the most, followed by BSE Energy.

The market breadth was skewed in the favour of buyers as 2,611 stock advanced and 1,286 stock declined, meanwhile 154 stock remained unchanged.
