Indian benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty 50 continued their upward trajectory to close higher for the third consecutive trading session on Wednesday.
Nifty 50 closed 0.47%, or 108.65 points higher at 23,437. While the Sensex closed 0.40% or 309.40 points higher at 77,044.
Axis Bank Ltd., HDFC Bank Ltd. and Bharti Airtel Ltd. emerged as the top gainers for the day. On the other hand, Infosys Ltd., Larsen & Toubro Ltd. and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. were the worst performers on the Nifty 50 index.
Axis Bank Ltd. was among the top gainers as the private lender contributed the most to the Nifty 50's gains. The Nifty Bank closed 1.41% higher.
Following the trend, HDFC Bank Ltd. closed 0.70% higher at Rs 1,878 apiece. Intraday, the stock rose as much as 1.01%. Following closely behind, Bharti Airtel rose to close 1.32% up at Rs 1,822.60 apiece.
ICICI Bank Ltd. closed 0.46% higher at Rs 1,356.40 apiece. The stock rose 0.70% intraday. The fifth biggest gainer of the trading session was ITC Ltd. as the stock surged to close 0.96% higher at Rs 424.45 apiece.
The biggest laggard for the trading session was Infosys, as the stock declined 0.90% at market close to Rs 1,413.10 apiece. It was closely followed by Larsen & Toubro Ltd and Maruti Suzuki India which declined 0.92% at Rs 3,227.70 apiece and 1.61% at Rs 11,664 per share, respectively.
