Light Commercial Vehicle Segment Drives Ashok Leyland Sales Up 14% In July

Ashok Leyland sales expand, while M&HCV segment reports a muted growth.

Ashok Leyland Ltd.’s total sales rose 14 percent year-on-year in July, driven by 28 percent jump in the light commercial vehicle segment.

The Chennai-based truck manufacturer sold 11,981 units as compared to 10,492 units sold in the same month last year. Sales of light commercial vehicles segment rose to 2,955 units last month, from 2310 units in July 2016.

Medium and heavy commercial vehicles segment turned out to be the weak link, much like June. It reported 10 percent increase in sales to 9,026 units from 8,182 units in the same month last year.

Ashok Leyland stock has outperformed the S&P BSE Sensex on a year-to-date basis, having gained 39.4 percent as opposed to the index’s gain of 23.2 percent.

Shares of the company were trading 0.32 percent higher at Rs 109.85 on the National Stock Exchange at 12.36 p.m.
