ICRA Research Report

The electricity demand growth estimate for FY22 is revised upwards to 8.0 - 8.5% from 6.0% earlier, led by the faster than expected recovery in demand post Covid-19 second wave and the favorable base effect.

Nonetheless, any emergence of potential third Covid-19 wave and consequent lockdown restrictions remains a monitorable.

The all-India thermal plant load factor level is estimated to show a modest improvement to about 58.5-59.0%, against an earlier estimate of 57.0-58.0% in FY22 from 54.5% in FY21.

Notwithstanding the recovery, the all India average thermal PLF level is estimated to remain subdued, at below 60.0%.
