FPIs Sell Rs 4,534 Crore, Remain Net Sellers For Nine Straight Sessions

Foreign portfolio investors remained net sellers of Indian equities for the ninth straight session on Wednesday and sold stocks worth Rs 4,533.5 crore.

Domestic institutional investors have been buyers for 21 consecutive sessions and bought stocks worth Rs 3,682.5 crore, according to provisional data from the National Stock Exchange.

So far in January, the FPIs have sold stakes worth Rs 35,658 crore, according to the National Securities Depository Ltd.

The FPIs have offloaded stocks worth Rs 7,806.3 crore in the stock exchanges on Jan. 14, according to the NSDL data collected by NDTV Profit.

The NSE Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex extended gains for the second straight session on Wednesday ahead of the US CPI data. After a positive opening, the markets remained non-directional as traders were possibly waiting for a breakout on either side.

The Nifty 50 ended 37.15 points or 0.16%, higher at 23,213.20, and the Sensex closed 224.45 points or 0.29%, higher at 76,724.08. During the session, the Nifty 50 rose 0.51% to the day's high of 23,293.65. The Sensex rose 0.64% to 76,835.61.

NTPC, Trent Ltd. and Power Grid Corp. were the top gainers in the Nifty 50 index on Wednesday.

Through 2024, overseas investors have been net sellers and have collectively offloaded stocks worth Rs 7,292.3 crore. The DIIs stayed net buyers through last year and bought stocks worth Rs 5.32 lakh crore, according to provisional data from the NSE compiled by NDTV Profit.

In December, the FPIs sold stakes worth Rs 7,292.3 crore, according to the NSDL, while the DIIs bought stakes worth Rs 34,194.7 crore, as per the NSE.
