FPIs Sell Rs 3,318.1 Crore, Stay Net Sellers For Eleven Straight Sessions

Foreign portfolio investors stayed net sellers of Indian equities for the eleventh straight session on Friday and sold stocks worth Rs 3,318.1 crore.
Domestic institutional investors have been buyers for 22 consecutive sessions and bought stocks worth Rs 2,572.9 crore, according to provisional data from the National Stock Exchange.
So far in January, FPIs have sold stake worth Rs 44,396 crore, according to the National Securities Depository Ltd.
The FPIs have offloaded stocks worth Rs 4,416.02 crore in the stock exchanges on Jan. 16, according to the NSDL data collected by NDTV Profit.
The NSE Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex extended their fall for the second consecutive week, with HCLTechnologies Ltd. and Infosys Ltd. as the top losers for the week. IT was among the worst performing sector, with Nifty IT falling nearly 6% in the week that comprised of third quarter earnings.
Through the week, Hindalco Industries Ltd., NTPC Ltd., Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone were the top gainers, while HCLTech, Infosys, Axis Bank Ltd., and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. were among the worst performers.
The NSE Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex snapped a three-day gaining streak on Friday, to close lower ahead of Tech Mahindra Ltd. and Wipro Ltd.'s third quarter results.
Since October 2024, overseas investors have majorly been net sellers and have collectively offloaded stocks worth Rs 7,292.3 crore. DIIs stayed net buyers during the period and bought stocks worth Rs 5.32 lakh crore, according to provisional data from the NSE compiled by NDTV Profit.
In December, the FPIs sold stake worth Rs 7,292.3 crore, according to the NSDL, while the DIIs bought stake worth Rs 34,194.7 crore, as per the NSE.
