Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti 2025: Is Stock Market Open Or Closed On Feb. 19?

The stock market in India including the BSE and the National Stock Exchange will observe a settlement holiday on the occasion of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti on Feb. 19. This means, trading will continue to function as usual on Wednesday but clearing and settlement will remain closed for pay-in and pay-out of stocks and funds. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti is a public and bank holiday across Maharashtra.

Trading activity across equity, derivatives and securities lending and borrowings (SLB) will remain open for the day. However, the current and auction markets will remain closed on Feb. 19.

Profits and credits received from equity trades or exiting positions in the derivatives segment (F&O and CDS) on Feb. 18 and Feb. 19 will be available for withdrawal by the end of the day on Thursday, Feb. 20. Buy Today, Sell Tomorrow transactions will also not be allowed for Margin Trading Facility  (MTF) on Feb. 19.

Stock Market Trading Schedule

Stock market in India operates Monday to Friday, with planned closure on religious holidays and other occasions as decided by the governments. Further, trading activities do not take place on Saturdays and Sundays. These holidays offer traders and investors a window to plan events and enjoy the festivities without worrying about market fluctuations.

Trading in the equities segment takes place five days a week except for the weekend and other planned holidays. Here are the market timings for the equities segment.

A) Pre-open session

Order entry & modification Open: 09:00 hrs

Order entry & modification Close: 09:08 hrs*

*with random closure in last one minute. Pre-open order matching starts immediately after close of pre-open order entry.

B) Regular trading session

Normal/Limited Physical Market Open: 09:15 hrs

Normal/Limited Physical Market Close: 15:30 hrs

C) Closing Session

The Closing Session is held between 15.40 hrs and 16.00 hrs

D) Block Deal Session Timings:

Morning Window: This window shall operate between 08:45 hrs to 09:00 hrs.

Afternoon Window: This window shall operate between 14:05 hrs to 14:20 hrs

Note: The Exchange may, however, close the market on days other than the above scheduled holidays or may open the market on days originally declared as holidays. The Exchange may also extend, advance or reduce trading hours when it deems fit and necessary.
