BEML Ltd. has bagged an order worth Rs 83.5 crore from the Ministry of Defence for supplying a 50-tonne trailer, which is specifically designed so that it can transport battle tanks, according to an exchange filing on Tuesday.
The trailer's rear-chassis frame is equipped with a combination of fixed, hinged and loose ramps to ensure efficient loading of tanks. The battle tank carrier comes fitted with 12 twin wheels for durability and stability to tackle challenging terrains, the public sector undertaking said.
The order "strengthens BEML’s reputation as a key partner in India's defence sector and demonstrates its unwavering commitment to supporting national interests through cutting-edge, indigenous solutions", the filing stated. "It also reinforces its role in advancing the capabilities of the Indian Army and the broader defence ecosystem."
"This contract is a testament to our growing role in supporting the defence sector, and we look forward to expanding our contributions even further," BEML Chairperson Shantanu Roy said.
The trailer is equipped with a steerable turntable that enables 55-degree rotation in both directions. It also includes a twin-line air brake system, emergency brakes, as well as mechanically operated parking brakes, according to BEML.
