Veteran screenwriter Salim Khan, 90, is currently under observation in the Intensive Care Unit at Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital after suffering a minor brain haemorrhage. The legendary writer was admitted on Tuesday morning and underwent a key diagnostic procedure the following day. Doctors attending to him have assured that his condition is stable and improving.

Addressing the media, treating physician Dr Jalil Parkar said, “There was minimal brain haemorrhage. A procedure called DSA was done today morning. No surgery was required. He is still on ventilator. By tomorrow hopefully, he will be off ventilator. Keeping in mind the age, the time of recovery is more.” He added, “He's fine, he's stable… all in all, he's doing quite well.”

The ventilator support, the hospital clarified, was initiated as a precautionary step to allow detailed investigations and to ensure that his condition did not deteriorate during the process. Dr Parkar explained that Salim Khan had been brought in with high blood pressure and brief jerky movements, following which immediate medical attention was provided. “He was given immediate care at the hospital, the doctor said.

He was first taken to the emergency ward by family physician Dr Sandeep Chopra before being moved to the ICU for specialised monitoring. A multidisciplinary team of neurologists, cardiologists and critical care experts is currently supervising his treatment.

Doctors also dismissed reports suggesting that his condition was extremely critical, maintaining that while his age requires careful management and a slightly longer recovery period, the overall response to treatment has been positive.

News of his hospitalisation brought family members and close friends to the hospital through the day. Salman Khan, Arbaaz Khan and Alvira Khan Agnihotri were among those who arrived to be by his side, along with grandchildren Arhaan Khan, Nirvaan Khan and Ayaan Agnihotri. Longtime collaborator Javed Akhtar and actor Sanjay Dutt also visited late on Tuesday night to enquire about his health.

Salim Khan, who turned 90 in November last year, remains one of Hindi cinema's most influential screenwriters. As he continues to recover under close observation, the industry and his admirers are awaiting further updates while hoping for his swift return to good health.
