Shahid Kapoor's latest release O Romeo, directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, has entered Day 5 after its theatrical release. While the Day 5 box office figures are still to be announced, the film added Rs. 4.75 crore on its first Monday, taking its total India net collection to Rs 34.90 crore in four days.
The romantic crime drama had opened on a steady note on Friday with Rs 8.5 crore and witnessed a sharp jump on Valentine's Day, earning Rs 12.65 crore on Saturday. However, collections dipped to Rs 9 crore on Sunday, partly due to the India–Pakistan T20 World Cup clash, before dropping further at the start of the week.
While the film has posted a respectable opening weekend, it is yet to match the pace set by Kapoor's 2019 blockbuster Kabir Singh. The earlier film had crossed Rs 70 crore in its first weekend and added over Rs 17 crore on Day 4, showing a stronger weekday hold than O Romeo, which saw a steeper fall in comparison.
Despite this, O Romeo has performed better than some of the actor's recent films Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya and Deva, both of which saw lower first-Monday collections at Rs 3.65 crore and Rs 2.75 crore respectively, after opening weekends of Rs 27.10 crore and Rs 19.15 crore.
The film, set in the 1990s and inspired by Hussain Zaidi's Mafia Queens of Mumbai, features Shahid Kapoor as Ustara, a razor-wielding contract killer who secretly works as a police informant. His life takes a dramatic turn when he becomes involved with Afsha, played by Triptii Dimri, a widow seeking revenge against a powerful gangster. The cast also includes Nana Patekar, Vikrant Massey, Tamannaah Bhatia, Disha Patani, Avinash Tiwary and Farida Jalal.
Occupancy on Day 4 remained modest at around 11.62% overall. Morning shows began slowly but footfall improved through the day, with night shows recording the highest attendance. Delhi-NCR continued to lead in the number of screenings with 1,206 shows, followed by Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
With its current total, O Romeo is on the verge of surpassing the lifetime collections of Shahid Kapoor's Badmaash Company (Rs 34.98 crore) and Phata Poster Nikla Hero (Rs 36.37 crore). The film's performance in the coming weekdays will be crucial in determining whether it can maintain momentum at the box office.
