The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has sought a report from Air India, after it deployed a scheduled flight from Newark to New Delhi, to fly the Indian cricket team back home from Barbados. Most passengers who had booked tickets for the flight on July 2 were informed in advance.

Those who could not be informed were accommodated in a flight from New York to Delhi. They were taken to New York by road.

Passengers were not inconvenienced by the deployment of the aircraft for the cricket team, an Air India official told PTI.

The team, that has now landed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi had been stranded at Barbados due to Hurricane Beryl.

The chartered flight was arranged by the Board of Control for Cricket in India with a special call sign, AIC24WC, which stands for Air India Champions 24 World Cup.
