(Bloomberg) -- Washington is the first state to sue President Donald Trump over his executive order barring immigrants from seven countries from entering the U.S., including claims that Microsoft Corp. and Amazon.com Inc. employees are among those affected by the policy.
Attorney General Bob Ferguson, a Democrat, contends in the complaint filed Monday in Seattle federal court that Trump's Jan. 27 executive order is "undermining the state's sovereign interests." The order discriminates against individuals by religion, a violation of equal protection laws under the Fifth Amendment, Ferguson argues.
Among those harmed could be the 76 citizens of Iran, Iraq, Syria, Somalia, Sudan, Libya or Yemen who hold work visas sponsored by Microsoft, along with others working for Amazon.com, according to the complaint.
The case is State of Washington v. Trump, 17-cv-00141, U.S. District Court, Western District of Washington (Seattle).
