Twice over the last two days, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has shown his displeasure with the politics of alliance partners, the Rashtriya Janata Dal and the Congress.
The Janata Dal (United) leader, during a press conference, tried to play down his Sunday's remark that he would not toe the Congress line on how to oppose the Bharatiya Janata Party. Instead, he ended up reiterating what he had said, not that bluntly though.
“Only opposing and offering resistance isn't enough. What is the alternative? We should deliberate upon everything which is in the interest of the public and set an alternative agenda,” Kumar said on Monday. “I addressed (Congress Vice-President) Rahul Gandhi at P Chidambaram's book release and told him that the Congress is a big party, and should set an alternative agenda.”

The differences among the partners surfaced after Kumar supported the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance's decision to project Bihar Governor Ram Nath Kovind as its presidential candidate. He didn't switch support even after Congress leader from Bihar and former Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar was fielded by the opposition.
While Nitish distanced himself from the Congress and RJD's style of opposition politics, he reiterated that he is not in the race for Prime Minister in 2019.
Is he just asserting his own position in the Mahagathbandhan or there is more to it?
