A 24-year-old man sustained critical injuries after allegedly falling nearly 40 feet during a zipline ride at a private resort in Dandeli, Uttara Kannada district after a safety mechanism reportedly failed.

According to an NDTV report, the victim, identified as Kuber Surpur from Vijayapura, was visiting the Sterling River Resort with his family when the incident occurred on July 3. Surapura suffered multiple fractures in his arms and legs, along with nerve damage, after plunging to the ground midway through the ride.

The victim underwent multiple surgeries and he is currently under treatment, as per NDTV report. The family has accused the resort management of negligence and alleged that the zipline equipment appeared rusted and was not properly maintained, as per NDTV.

The tragic incident captured on camera has gone viral on social media, raising concerns over safety standards at adventure tourism destinations. In the video, the 24-year-old tourist was seen falling from the zipline after just being launched from the starting point.

As per the NDTV report, the victim's family has alleged that the zipline's safety lock gave way while he was suspended in the air, causing him to fall.

Following the accident, Surapura was rushed to the Dandeli Government Hospital before being shifted to a hospital in Vijayapura. He was later referred to a hospital in Miraj for specialised treatment.

The report further stated that the victim's family has demanded accountability from the resort. They claimed that the accident could have been prevented through proper maintenance and regular safety inspections.

The incident has once again raised concerns over safety standards at adventure tourism facilities in India. Over the years, accidents involving bungee jumping, paragliding, boating, and other adventure sports have highlighted gaps in safety protocols and equipment maintenance.
