The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)'s iconic canteen will switch from commercial gas to electric stoves in Mumbai as the LPG supply chain is disrupted by the Middle Eastern crisis.
Asia's richest municipal corporation is hit with the global gas shortage to serve the visitors and even the staff members, BMC Head Office Canteen Manager Danny Biswas said, according to the Free Press Journal. On Wednesday, the canteen only has a limited stock of cooking gas, which is expected to last until today or tomorrow.
"The canteens in nearby government offices are not functioning due to the gas shortage, which resulted in an increased crowd at the BMC canteen," he added. Several people consume breakfast, lunch, and evening snacks in the BMC Canteen. Asia now has limited gas left and is operating on its last stock.

In the second half of the day on Wednesday, the BMC served only dry meals, which do not require cooking.
How is the gas crisis affecting Mumbai?
Earlier, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) directed its West Zone's catering to adopt electric-based cooking equipment, including microwaves and induction stoves.
The restaurants are also facing the heat of LPG shortage as the Indian Hotel and Restaurant Association (AHAR) has urged support on an urgent basis from the Centre and State governments.
Around 20% of hotels were reported shut in the city this week, while several others are looking towards the shutdown.
