India extended on Friday the ban on its airspace for Pakistan-owned and operated planes for another month after Islamabad's decision to shut its airspace for Indian carriers.

The government has issued a notice to airmen under which Pakistani aircraft are barred from Indian airspace till June 23.

"Indian airspace is not available for aircraft registered in Pakistan, aircraft operated, owned, or leased by Pakistani airlines or operators, including military aircraft," the notice said.

Flights from Pakistan for destinations in Southeast Asia and Australia will now have to circumnavigate India, adding to the costs for airlines.

The two countries first issued their Notams in late April after escalating tensions in the wake of the horrific terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam in which 26 people were gunned down by terrorists with links to Pakistan. India responded with Operation Sindoor precision strikes inside Pakistani territory.
