The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that heat wave conditions are likely to persist over isolated to scattered pockets of northwest and central India during the next three days before abating thereafter.

According to the IMD, heat wave to severe heat wave conditions are very likely in isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh with heat wave conditions continuing on April 27. 

Heat wave conditions are also very likely in isolated to some parts of Jammu and Kashmir on April 27.

Similar conditions are expected over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, west Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Bihar and Gujarat on April 27.

East Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are likely to see heat wave conditions from April 27 to 28.

Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, and Rayalaseema are likely to experience hot and humid conditions from April 26-30, while Kerala and Mahe are expected to see similar conditions on April 27.

Haryana, Chandigarh and west Madhya Pradesh are expected to witness warm night conditions on April 27, while Chhattisgarh is likely to experience them on April 27-28.

Realised Weather on Sunday

In its assessment of temperature conditions during the past 24 hours till 8:30 am, the IMD said maximum daytime temperatures were in the range of 40°C to 45°C over most parts of the country, except the Western Himalayan region, northeast India, the west coast and southern parts of peninsular India. The highest maximum temperature recorded on Saturday was 47.4°C at Banda in Uttar Pradesh.

The weather department stated that maximum temperatures were markedly above normal, by more than 5.1°C, over Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, and south-west Rajasthan.

Temperatures were appreciably above normal, by 3.1°C to 5.0°C, over Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, east Rajasthan, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Vidarbha, and Kerala and Mahe.

They were above normal, by 1.6°C to 3.0°C, over Meghalaya, Tripura, Mizoram, Odisha, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Telangana, Rayalaseema, interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.

In contrast, temperatures were below normal, between 3.0°C and 1.6°C lower than usual, over Jammu and Kashmir and Assam, while they remained near normal over the rest of the country.
