Amid efforts to encourage people to adopt piped natural gas, the government has announced a new digital initiative to simplify the process. For this, it has launched the MyPNG-D Portal (MyPNGD.in) for consumers who have switched to piped natural gas. The portal allows PNG users to voluntarily surrender their LPG connections from home.
In a post on X, Neeraj Mittal, secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG), explained that MyPNG-D Portal (MyPNGD.in) eases the process for PNG users to surrender their LPG connection without visiting a dealership.
This comes as the government has intensified the process to extend PNG connections to households across India amid fuel supply concerns. As the US-Iran war entered its fourth week, disrupting global oil supply, the government is urging people to adopt PNG. Earlier, it also issued a notification stating that households having access to PNG networks and still avoiding the facility may face disconnection of LPG service after three months.

What Is PNG?
Indian Oil explains on its website that PNG is a natural gas, mainly made of methane and supplied through mild steel and polyethylene pipes. Like LPG, it caters to the natural gas demand in domestic, commercial, etc segments.
PNG is a clear, colourless and odourless fuel with high energy density. It is non-toxic, non-corrosive and non-carcinogenic, making it safe for household use. Composed mainly of high-purity methane, its impurities are removed during liquefaction. This ensures efficient combustion, positioning it as a reliable energy source for various uses.
