Maharashtra Finance Minister Jayant Patil on Saturday said it would be tough to take the state's economy past the $1 trillion mark in 6-7 years, a goal previous chief minister Devendra Fadnavis often spoke about at political rallies and investment seminars.

The Maharashtra economy is growing at 7 percent and to achieve the $1 trillion mark, it would have to accelerate at 15 percent annually, which seems improbable. "It is difficult for us to achieve this target," the Nationalist Congress Party leader said.

Speaking on the farm loan waiver recently announced by the Uddhav Thackeray government and the row over it, Patil said, "We had given relief of up to Rs 2 lakh. We are collecting data of all farmers, after which we will announce further relief.”

In a government resolution issued on Saturday, the Maha Vikas Aghadi government said farmers whose outstanding crop loan amount till Sept. 30, 2019, exceeds Rs 2 lakh will not be eligible for the farm loan waiver scheme.
