The Delhi government has issued 4.75 lakh e-tokens, which allow people to buy liquor in the national capital, an official said on Saturday.

Under the e-token system, customers are alotted a specific time to purchase alcohol. Registered individuals receive the e-token on their mobile phones and must collect their alcohol from shops that are allowed to operate in the city. Currently, the Delhi government has allowed 200 liquor shops to remain open.

The system was introduced on Thursday after people flouted social distancing norms and thronged to liquor stores to buy alcohol.

People wanting an e-token must first register using the web link www.qtoken.in, according to an official. On the portal, applicants must specify the address of the liquor shop in their area along with their mobile number in order to receive an e-token.
