China and India held the 25th Meeting of the Special Representatives on the Boundary Question in Beijing to examine bilateral ties and discuss matters related to the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
Following discussions between senior diplomats in Beijing on Tuesday, both countries decided to pursue a "fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable settlement" of their border dispute, according to a report by Reuters.
A roughly 3,800-kilometre (2,400-mile) disputed border in the Himalayas separates the two most populous countries in the world, both of which are nuclear powers.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and India's National Security Advisor Ajit Doval talked about ways to advance work on boundary delimitation, maintain peace and stability along the border, and increase bilateral cooperation, according to the Indian Embassy in China.

According to a statement from China's foreign ministry, Wang Yi and Ajit Doval conducted "comprehensive, in-depth, friendly and candid" talks about border issues and bilateral relations.
According to Yi, China-India ties now have global and strategic significance in addition to being bilateral, and the two neighbours should improve communication and lessen their differences.
After a violent border confrontation in 2020 that resulted in a four-year military standoff before a disengagement agreement was signed in October 2024, relations between Beijing and New Delhi have steadily improved in recent years.
On September 12-13, 2026, India will host the BRICS summit. Chinese President Xi Jinping is anticipated to participate in his first trip to India in seven years, according to a report by Reuters.
