Tata Group, entering the semiconductor industry, is planning to establish additional manufacturing facilities in Assam, Tamil Nadu's Hosur, and other locations across India, Chairman N Chandrasekaran told NDTV Profit on Thursday.
"We are constructing this Fab in Dholera, which will have five different technologies. While it will be primarily located in Dholera, we are also setting up one in Assam, Hosur, and other places," Chandrasekaran said during the announcement of the company's partnership with a Taiwanese firm on Thursday.
Tata Electronics Pvt. Ltd.—a new venture of the Tata Group—has partnered with Taiwan's Powerchip Manufacturing Semiconductor Company to build India's first semiconductor manufacturing plant in Dholera, Gujarat.
Tata Sons is the main investment holding company and promoter of Tata businesses. Although the group is involved in various sectors, Chandrasekaran believes the future lies in semiconductors.
"Everything in this world will be driven by technology. We will see more semiconductor chips in every product we use, such as mobile phones, energy systems, manufacturing plants, and industrial and consumer goods, whether in B2B or B2C sectors," he said.
The semiconductor facility in Dholera will incorporate five different technologies, and the partnership with Taiwan's PSMC has progressed rapidly. He noted that their meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday was productive.
"Every nation aiming for strong innovation-led growth needs semiconductors as the foundation for that progress. This initiative will help build an ecosystem as many companies will require it," he said.

Under the agreement, PSMC will provide design and construction support to develop India's first artificial intelligence-enabled, advanced greenfield Fab in Gujarat.
PSMC will also provide a licence for a broad range of technologies and offer engineering support to the facility in Gujarat.
"This Fab will have a manufacturing capacity of up to 50,000 wafers per month and will feature next-generation factory automation using data analytics and machine learning," according to a media statement.
With a total investment of up to Rs 91,000 crores, the project is expected to generate more than 20,000 direct and indirect skilled jobs. "Tata Group's multi-fab vision for Dholera is estimated to create over 1,00,000 skilled jobs," it added.
