Mumbai witnessed the highest voter turnout in three decades in the ongoing Lok Sabha election but still lagged major metropolitan peers.
Yet, it offered some solace. The maximum city, with a 55 percent turnout, is the only city among Delhi, Bengaluru and Chennai that witnessed a rise in number of voters compared to 2014 polls.
Bengaluru's voter turnout fell in all four seats, while only one seat in Chennai barely managed to edge past its 2014 tally. The overall voter turnout in other two seats—Chennai North and Chennai Central—fell between 3 percent and 4 percent.
None of the seats in Delhi met its 2014 tally. The national capital had witnessed 65 percent voter turnout in the last general election, which is 13 higher than its tally in 2009. Voter turnout in all seven seats in Delhi was more than 60 percent in 2014.
