All prominent exit polls conducted after voting showed Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party returning to power with a healthy majority. In the capital’s 70-member assembly, a party or alliance needs to secure 36 seats to form a government. In the 2015 elections, AAP had won 67 seats, the Bharatiya Janata Party 3 and the Congress drew a blank.

Aam Aadmi's Delhi Hands Another Loss To BJP

Arvind Kejriwal secured a third term as Delhi chief minister after his Aam Aadmi Party got a decisive mandate winning 62 out of the 70 seats.

The Bharatiya Janata Party won eight seats, better than the three it had won in the previous assembly election. This was the third straight state election loss for the BJP since it came to power in the Centre in May 2019. The Congress failed to win any seats—a repeat of the previous poll.

Kejriwal accepted the victory saying that the results were a win for a new kind of politics—one that focusses on work. He was congratulated by top political leaders of the country for a resounding victory.

Other key candidates for AAP including Deputy CM Manish Sisodia and Atishi, too, secured victories despite trailing earlier in the day.

Delhi Election Tally: AAP Leads In 63 Seats As Of 5 P.M.

Aam Aadmi Party’s Arvind Kejriwal is poised for a third term as data from the election commission showed the regional party leading in 63 of the total 70 seats. BJP was leading in the remaining seven seats as of 5 p.m. while Congress failed to gain a foothold in even one constituency.

Delhi BJP Chief Manoj Tiwari Concedes Defeat

Manoj Tiwari, BJP's chief for Delhi, conceded defeat after results showed a mandate in favour of the AAP.


Manish Sisodia Inches Ahead In Patparganj

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who was trailing earlier in the day, is now leading his BJP rival Ravinder Singh Negi.

Sisodia was leading by a fine margin of 3,207 votes as of 5 p.m. He received 49 percent of the votes, while his BJP counterpart has gotten over 47 percent of the votes.
