India’s Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal will visit the United Kingdom on June 18 to discuss the progress on the implementation of the trade deal announced last month.

The Indian minister will hold bilateral meetings with the UK’s Trade Secretary Jonathan Reynolds and Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves, according to an official statement issued by New Delhi on Wednesday. Goyal is also expected to meet local business leaders during his two-day visit.

India and the UK signed a landmark deal last month, thrashing out a £42.6 billion ($57 billion) trading agreement between the two countries. That’s the first major free trade pact signed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government in a decade, and is seen as a stepping stone for its ongoing negotiations with the European Union.

Modi met with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on the sidelines of the Group of Seven summit in Canada on Tuesday. “India and UK ties are getting stronger, reflecting in the ground we’ve covered in areas like trade and commerce,” Modi posted on the social media platform X.

India is also seeking an interim trade deal with the US, in a bid to soften the impact of the hefty tariffs that will enter into force in July.
