Karnataka To Continue Excise Slab Rationalisation In 2025–26
To boost revenue, the government plans to allocate unused liquor licences through a transparent electronic auction.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, presenting the state budget for 2025-26 on Friday, announced that the government will continue rationalising excise slabs throughout the financial year by making slight adjustments to the excise duty structure.
The government has set a revenue collection target of Rs 40,000 crore for 2025-26. Siddaramaiah said the excise slab rationalisation aims to align premium segment liquor prices with those in neighbouring states.
To boost revenue, the government plans to allocate unused liquor licences through a transparent electronic auction. Additionally, software and online processes have been developed for all services in the excise department to enhance administrative efficiency and improve public service delivery.
The revised revenue estimate from state excise for 2024-25 stands at Rs 36,500 crore.
