Soccer Star Ronaldo ‘Doing Well’ After Positive Virus Test

Cristiano Ronaldo, widely considered one of the greatest soccer players of all time, has been temporarily ruled out of working with Portugal's national team after testing positive for the coronavirus.

“The Portuguese international is doing well, without symptoms, and in isolation,” Portugal's soccer federation said in a statement Tuesday afternoon. Portugal is due to play against Sweden on Wednesday in Lisbon as part of the Nations League tournament.

Ronaldo was among the Portuguese players who faced Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe's French team on October 11. Players from the Portuguese squad, including Manchester City's Bernardo Silva and Manchester United's Bruno Fernandes, repeated tests for Covid-19 on Tuesday, which came back negative.

Shares in Turin-based Juventus Football Club SpA, where Ronaldo plays professionally, fell as much as 6.9% in Milan trading after the news.

The 35-year-old Ronaldo is regarded as one of the top players of his time alongside Argentine star Lionel Messi. Ronaldo has won five UEFA Champions League titles during his career and holds the record for the most goals in Champions League play.
