Maharashtra Records Over 25,00 Cases, 42 Fatalities

Maharashtra recorded 25,425 new Covid-19 cases coupled with 42 deaths in the previous day, ANI reported citing data from the government.

Active cases in the state now stand at 2,87,397.

Karnataka Registers More Than 38,000 Cases, 49 Deaths

Karnataka registered 38,083 new Covid-19 cases and 49 deaths today, ANI reported referring to state data.

While the day's positivity rate stood at 20.44%, active cases in the state have tallied up to 3,28,711.

Tamil Nadu Reports Over 28,000 Fresh Cases, 53 Deaths

Tamil Nadu reported 28,515 new Covid-19 cases coupled with 53 deaths during the last 24-hours, ANI reported citing state data.

The state now has 2,13,534 active cases.

Mumbai Records Less Than 1,500 Cases

Mumbai recorded 1,384 new Covid-19 cases and 12 deaths in the previous day, according to an update from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.

Active Covid-19 case tally in the city now stands at 18,040.

Delhi Registers Over 4,000 New Cases, 34 Deaths

Delhi registered 4,291 new Covid-19 cases coupled with 34 deaths in the last 24 hours, ANI reported citing data from the government.

While the day's positivity rate stood at 9.56%, active cases in the city have topped 33,175.

Andhra Pradesh Reports More Than 13,000 Cases

Andhra Pradesh reported 13,374 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, ANI reported citing state data.

Andhra Pradesh now has 1,09,493 active Covid-19 cases.

Jammu & Kashmir Records Almost 5,000 Cases

Jammu & Kashmir recorded 4,959 fresh Covid-19 cases and 7 deaths in the last 24-hours, ANI reported citing official data.

Active cases in the union territory now stand at 46,657.

Covaxin, Covishield Get Nod For Full Use

The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation has upgraded the permission for Covaxin and Covishield from restricted emergency use to normal drug permissions in the adult population, ANI reported citing Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.

Weekend Curfew Lifted In Delhi 

The District Disaster Management Authority has decided to lift weekend curfew. Some other decisions taken today:

  • Bars, restaurants and cinema halls allowed to open with 50% capacity

  • Odd-even system of opening of shops has been done away with.

  • Number of guests allowed in marriages increased to 200.

  • Governmentt offices can operate with 50% capacity

The decision to reopen schools will be taken in next meeting.

Delhi Will Report Less Than 5,000 Cases: Health Minister

Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said that Delhi will report less than 5,000 cases today and the positivity rate will also come down from the existing 10%, reported ANI.

New Cases Rise To 2.86 Lakh

New Covid-19 cases in India rose for the second straight day but stayed below the 3-lakh mark at a time the Omicron variant spreads rapidly.

The nation reported as many as 2.86 lakh fresh coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry’s update on Jan. 27.

Daily recoveries exceeded 3 lakh, for the first time at least since June last year. India’s recovery rate stands at 93.33%.

The Omicron tally is not updated on the government's PIB website.

India's active tally fell for the third straight day, and constitutes 5.46% of the country's total positive cases.

  • The nation's weekly positivity rate currently stands at 17.75%, while the daily positivity rate is at 19.59%.

  • The last 24 hours saw a total of 14.6 lakh tests being conducted. India has so far conducted over 72.21 crore cumulative tests.
