Maharashtra government on Saturday decided to extend the ongoing lockdown till at least April 30 amid a spike in Covid-19 cases, making it the third state to do so after Odisha and Punjab.
Making the announcement, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said that the lockdown can be relaxed in certain areas while in others it will become stricter.
He also said that the decision on lifting the curbs completely after April 30 will be taken depending upon the prevailing situation.
This comes after most Indian states, in a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asked for the nationwide lockdown to be extended till April 30.
Earlier on Thursday, the state of Odisha was the first to extend the lockdown to April 30th. On Friday, Punjab Chief Minister, Amrinder Singh also announced extension of the lockdown.
