Dharavi Records 57 New Covid-19 Cases

Dharavi recorded 57 new confirmed cases of Covid-19, taking the total count of infected people in Mumbai's biggest slum to 916.

Among the latest to test positive are women aged between 17 years and 68 years and men aged between 8 years and 71 years, said Kiran Dighavkar, assistant commissioner in charge of the G/North Ward in Central Mumbai.

29 people have died so far due to Covid-19 in Dharavi, a sprawl of shanties spread over 240 hectares with a population of 8.5 lakh and over 13,000 small businesses.

Of the 57 fresh cases:

  • Eight were from Matunga Labour Camp
  • Six from Dharavi Cross Road
  • Three each from 90 Feet Road, Chougule Chawl, Abu Bakr Chawl and PMGP Colony
  • Two from New Municipal Chawl
  • One each from PV Chawl, Dhobi Ghat, Gautam Chawl, Muslim Nagar, Shastri Nagar, Subodh Chawl, Nehru Chawl, Dhorwada, Kuttiwadi, Pranay Apartment, Tulja Bai Chawl, Transit Camp, Social Nagar, Indira Nagar, Anna Nagar, Kunte Nagar, Holi Maidan, Sakina Bhai Chawl, Mahatma Gandhi CHS, Ashok Mill Compound, Miraj Compound, 60 Feet Road, Sherwadi, Siddhrath Chawl, Shiv Shakti Nagar, Chotta Sion Staff Quarter, Dr. Bali Nagar

According to Maharashtra health ministry's media bulletin on Monday, 1,230 new Covid-19 cases were reported taking the total tally to 23,401. The total number of cases in Mumbai stands at 14,521.
