Dharavi Records 42 New Cases Of Covid-19, Including 4 Deaths

Dharavi recorded 42 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 including four deaths today, taking the total count of infected people in Mumbai's biggest slum to 330.

Of the four deceased, one male and female of 60 years had earlier tested positive at Sion Hospital, said Kiran Dighavkar, assistant commissioner in charge of the G/North Ward in Central Mumbai. “A 48-year-old man from Kasarwadi area and a 55-year-old man from Social Nagar in Dharavi were declared dead at KEM Hospital.”

Of the remaining cases, seven were reported from 90 Feet Road; four from Mukund Nagar; three each from Indira Nagar, Rajiv Gandhi Nagar and Kunchikurve Nagar; two each from PV Chawl, Matunga Labour Camp and 60 Feet Road; one each from Azad Nagar, Sanjay Gandhi Nagar, Pivla Bungalow, Muslim Nagar, Kalyanwadi, New Municipal Chawl, Markandeya Society, Dhobi Ghat, Cross Road, Mochi Gali, Shatabdi Nagar, Agas Vadi and Uday Society. One more case was recorded in Dharavi, whose exact location wasn't mentioned in the data provided by the municipal corporation.

Among the latest to test positive are 33 men aged between 13 years and 74 years and 10 women aged between 26 years and 69 years.

So far, 18 people have died because of complications related to Covid-19 in Dharavi, a sprawl of shanties spread over 240 hectares with a population of 8.5 lakh and over 13,000 small businesses.

According to the data by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Maharashtra has 8,590 cases of Covid-19.
