On May 31, official sources emphasised that the COVID-19 situation in India is under close observation. They reassured that the severity of infections remains low, with most patients receiving home care, and there is no cause for alarm.
Dr Rajiv Behl, Director General of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), stated on Monday that genome sequencing of samples from the West and South regions has identified the variants causing the current rise in cases. These variants are subvariants of Omicron, which are not severe, PTI reported.
"The four variants we have found are subvariants of Omicron: LF.7, XFG, JN.1, and NB.1.8.1. The first three have been found in a higher number of cases," Dr Behl explained, as per PTI.
