Some other highlights from Thackeray's speech:

  • Aim to conduct 2.5 lakh RT-PCR tests daily in the coming days.

Pune Divisional Commissioner announced a 12-hour night curfew from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., from April 3 - April 9, according to ANI.

  • Bars, hotels, restaurants to remain closed for 7 days; only home delivery will be allowed.

  • No public function, except funerals and weddings, will be allowed.

  • Religious places will be completely closed for the next 7 days.

Indian authorities vaccinated 36.71 lakh beneficiaries in the last 24 hours, according to the health ministry's 8:00 a.m. update.

That takes the total number of Indians vaccinated to 6.87 crore.

India launched Covid-19 vaccination for all people aged 45 and above from Thursday, as part of efforts to fast-track the countrywide anti-coronavirus inoculation drive.

The government has also decided to keep all public and private sector vaccination centres open throughout April, including on gazetted holidays.

Globally, the number of coronavirus cases passed 12.93 crore, while deaths exceeded the 28-lakh mark, as of Friday morning.

Anthony Fauci, America’s top infectious disease official, said the country may not need AstraZeneca’s vaccine even if it passes U.S. regulatory approval, Reuters reported, citing an interview. Sinovac said annual production capacity of its Covid-19 vaccine CoronaVac has reached 2 billion doses.

President Joe Biden’s administration is “assured” that Johnson & Johnson will meet its U.S. vaccine delivery targets despite a setback at a Baltimore site, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said.
