Actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and daughter Aaradhya tested positive for Covid-19, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope said.

That came after her husband and actor Abhishek Bachchan and father-in-law and Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan tested positive and were admitted to Nanavati hospital in Mumbai on Saturday.

Actor Jaya Bachchan, wife of the veteran filmstar, tested negative, the minister tweeted.

Earlier on Sunday, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar had said that Jaya Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai and her daughter had tested negative in the first round of antigen tests. The gold standard for Covid-19 testing is the RT-PCR test.

Veteran actor Anupam Kher on Sunday said his mother, Dulari, along with brother Raju and his family have tested positive for Covid-19 and are currently under quarantine.

Sharing a video on Twitter, Kher said his mother wasn't eating for the past few days and even got her blood tests done, which showed nothing alarming.

“But then our doctor advised us to take her to a CT scan centre and get her scanned and it turned out she was COVID positive, mild,” he said. “My brother and I also got ourselves tested, where Raju tested mildly positive while I was negative. My sister-in-law and niece also tested mildly positive.”

The 65-year-old actor said while his mother is admitted to Kokilaben Hospital, his brother's family is quarantining at their home.

Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan and his son Abhishek Bachchan are "feeling better" as they get treated for coronavirus at Nanavati Hospital, Dr Abdul Samad Ansari, director of Critical Care Services at the hospital, said on Sunday.

The father-son duo on Saturday posted on Twitter that they had tested positive for Covid-19 and are in the hospital's isolation ward. ANI earlier tweeted quoting another hospital official that Bachchan was stable mild symptoms.

The veteran actor shared the information of contracting the virus on his social media on Saturday, prompting a welter of get well soon wishes from across the world. He said his family has been tested and requested those who have been in his close proximity over the past 10 days to do the same.

On Sunday, a team from the civic body visited Bachchan's bungalows - Janak, Jalsa and Pratiksha for sanitisation and contact tracing.

"A team from BMC is present at Amitabh Bachchan's bungalows - Janak, Jalsa and Pratiksha for sanitising the bungalow and contact tracing," a BMC source told PTI.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has sealed actor Rekha's bungalow in suburban Bandra after a security guard there tested coronavirus positive, a civic official said on Sunday.

The guard at the 65-year-old actor’s bungalow 'Sea Springs' tested positive on Tuesday, the official said.

The BMC has declared the place as a containment area.

The security guard has been hospitalised at the BMC's Covid-19 care facility in Bandra Kurla Complex, he said.

Eighteen personnel at Raj Bhavan in south Mumbai have tested coronavirus positive, a civic body official said on Sunday.

Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari is fine and has self-isolated himself as a precautionary measure, another official said.

Two Raj Bhavan employees tested positive last week, after which 100 others there got tested, of which 16 have tested positive, the official said.

Among those who tested positive are senior staff members at Raj Bhavan, sources said.

Maharashtra, India's worst-hit state, registered a record single-day jump of 8,139 new cases on Saturday, taking the state's tally to 2,46,600 positive cases.

The record rise in daily cases was seen on a day the state government announced a 10-day long lockdown in Pune district.

With the unabated rise in cases, India is now planning a countrywide survey to determine the level of outbreak.

The Indian Council of Medical Research will conduct a ‘sero-survey’ study which involves testing of blood serum of people to check for the prevalence of antibodies against coronavirus infection. Results of an earlier survey, conducted in May, are yet to be released.
