Drug firm Wockhardt Ltd. has received approval from the U.S. health regulator for generic Olopatadine HCl eye drops used for the treatment of ophthalmic allergies.

The company has received final approval from the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for Olopatadine HCl 0.1 percent ophthalmic solution, Wockhardt said in a BSE filing on Monday.

The product is a generic version of Patanol, which is marketed in the U.S. by Alcon, a subsidiary of pharmaceutical major Novartis, it added.

The product will be manufactured at a U.S. FDA approved contract manufacturing organisation based in Montreal, Canada, Wockhardt said.

Shares of Wockhardt closed 0.18 percent higher at Rs 605.05 per scrip on BSE.
