Suzlon Vice Chairman Girish Tanti has been elected Chair of the Global Wind Energy Council India, according to a statement. In April, he was elected Vice-Chair of GWEC.

The role involves working with national and state governments to build momentum and establish policy frameworks for India's wind energy and supply chain potential, both onshore and offshore, the GWEC said.

India is the world's fourth-largest wind market with 46 GW of onshore wind capacity and a significant wind energy manufacturing hub. Tanti's leadership at GWEC and GWEC India will further drive this momentum.

Ben Backwell, CEO of GWEC, stated, "India has enormous potential for onshore wind, offshore wind, and as a global supply chain hub. We look forward to strengthening our work with national and state governments, key regional stakeholders, and the global wind industry to drive India's continued wind energy expansion."

Belgium-based GWEC represents over 1,500 companies, organisations, and institutions in more than 80 countries, including manufacturers, developers, component suppliers, research institutes, national wind and renewables associations, electricity providers, and finance and insurance companies.
