South Korean electronics major Samsung will make additional investment of Rs 1,000 crore in their existing facility in Tamil Nadu's Sriperumbudur. This investment will create 100 more jobs, according to T R B Rajaa, Tamil Nadu Minister of Industries.

In March 2022, the company signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Tamil Nadu government for the new compressor manufacturing plant in Sriperumbudur near Chennai, expanding and strengthening the component ecosystem in the state.

Rajaa announced the news on his official X profile on Friday.

The new facility has a capacity to produce 8 million compressor units a year, which will be expanded in the future. Compressors produced at the plant are used in refrigerators that Samsung manufactures in India and also exported, it said in a media release.

Set up in 2007, the manufacturing facility in Sriperumbudur is one of two factories that Samsung operates in India. Samsung’s flagship consumer electronics products, including luxury QLED TVs, refrigerators, washing machines and ACs are manufactured at this plant. Some of these innovative digital appliances are exported to other countries.

Samsung India also has a plant at Noida in Uttar Pradesh, where it manufactures smartphones.
