Reliance MediaWorks focuses on expansion in South India

Reliance MediaWorks (RMW), part of the Anil Ambani-led Reliance Group, is looking to strengthen presence in the South Indian market by expanding services at its existing studios and exploring new strategic partnerships.

"In 2012, we plan to deepen our presence in the Tamil and Telugu markets through our strategic alliances and additionally further strengthen our service offerings," Reliance MediaWorks CEO Anil Arjun told PTI.

He said the company will leverage on the existing relationships with local partners for expanding the range of services offered, while also scouting for new strategic alliances.

The company that provides film and entertainment production services had recently partnered with VenSat Tech in Chennai and Annapurna Studios in Hyderabad.

"We will leverage from our existing partnerships to cater to South India's film and entertainment industry," he added.

For Bollywood, Arjun said the company is enhancing visual effects capabilities and expanding the studios in Mumbai.

He said the company offered production related services such as motion picture processing, digital intermediate, digital cinema mastering and visual effects for 110 out of 114 Bollywood films that were released in 2011.

"We are also banking on TV broadcast space, where a lot of high definition content is being created and the expected digitisation will provide more opportunities for growth of our business," he added.

When asked about the company's plans to sell minority stake and raise Rs 500 crore rights issue he said: "The plans are on track and will be announced when finalised."
