  1. On Tuesday, diesel prices were increased by 7 paise per litre across Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai, compared with the previous day. Petrol prices across the metros were raised by 1 paise per litre on that day.
  2. So far this month, petrol prices are up by Rs 0.69 per litre in Delhi, Rs 0.68 per litre in Kolkata, Rs 0.68 per litre in Mumbai and Rs 0.72 per litre in Chennai. Diesel prices are up by Rs 0.65-0.69 per litre in the metros.
  3. In the year so far, petrol price is up by Rs 2.20-2.34 per litre and diesel by Rs 3.16-3.61 per litre.

  5. Petrol and diesel retailers in the country - with Indian Oil Corporation being the largest - adopted a daily price revision system from June 2017.
  6. Since then, petrol rates have come up by Rs 5.29 per litre in Delhi, Rs 5.42 per litre in Kolkata, Rs 1.63 per litre in Mumbai and Rs 4.94 per litre in Chennai. Diesel prices have been raised by Rs 6.86 per litre, Rs 7.21 per litre, Rs 5.21 per litre and Rs 6.99 per litre, respectively.
  7. In the current scheme of petrol and diesel price revision, the prices of the two fuels are determined broadly by the global crude oil rates and the rupee-dollar exchange rate.
  8. International crude oil prices edged up on Wednesday, lifted by tensions in the Middle East and healthy demand, although rising US output continued to weigh on markets.
  9. US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures were at $63.69 a barrel in recent trade, up 15 cents, or 0.2 per cent, from their previous close. Brent crude futures were at $67.56 per barrel, up 14 cents, or 0.2 per cent.

Meanwhile, subsidised LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) currently costs Rs. 493.09 per cylinder (of 14.2 kilograms) in Delhi, Rs. 496.07 per cylinder in Kolkata, Rs. 490.8 per cylinder in Mumbai and Rs. 481.21 per cylinder in Chennai, according to Indian Oil Corporation. These rates came into effect on March 1, 2018. Non-subsidised LPG or cooking gas costs Rs. 689 per cylinder (14.2 kg) in Delhi, Rs. 711.5 per cylinder in Kolkata, Rs. 661 per cylinder in Mumbai and Rs. 699.5 per cylinder in Chennai, according to Indian Oil, which supplies LPG or cooking gas under brand Indane.
