Technology major Oracle Corp. will set up a data centre in India to expand its cloud services over the next 6-9 months, wire agency PTI reported quoting a company statement.

Catz is on a three-day visit to India.

“Over the coming months, Oracle will review proposals from government and business partners to provide customers with the capability to build and move workloads to an India-based cloud,” the U.S.-based company said in the statement. This will enable Oracle to deliver secure services to customers with “significant price advantage,” the report added. The company, however, did not divulge any investment details.

“With this expansion, we will be able to further support customer choice adding to capabilities already available through deployments of ‘Oracle Cloud at Customer', as well as other Oracle Cloud data centre regions in Asia Pacific,” Oracle President (Product Development) Thomas Kurian said in the statement.

Oracle had, last year, announced a $400 million investment and expansion plan in Bangalore, in one of its largest real estate ramp-ups ever. Underlining the potential of the Indian market potential, Catz had praised the country's leadership saying they are focused on leapfrogging into future.

Speaking at the Smart Cities India Expo 2017 in New Delhi on Wednesday, Catz praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's digital push and detailed the company's plans in India.

“Prime Minister of India talks about using technology to optimise resources to make better decisions. Last year, we had signed an MoU with Devendra Fadnavis to focus on building a centre of excellence to leverage technology in every way. Two days ago, I signed an MoU with (Jharkhand Chief Minister) Raghubar Das to focus on bringing best possible technology for safety, water, transportation, parking in Jharkhand,” she said.

She added that no one is leading the way like India as people have a deeper understanding of digital capabilities.
