A special court in Mumbai on Sunday issued a non-bailable warrant against jewellers Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi on the request of the Cental Bureau of Investigation, wire agency PTI reported quoting officials.
This is the second non-bailable warrant issued against the two. In March, a Mumbai court issued a non-bailable warrant against Modi and Choksi on the request of the Enforcement Directorate.
Interpol had sought additional information from the Enforcement Directorate about the diamond jewellers in connection with the alleged fraud at Punjab National Bank which has now grown to Rs 13,000 crore, as part of the process to issue a Red Corner Notice.

The CBI had earlier issued summons to Modi and Choksi – the alleged perpetrators of the fraud – asking them to appear for questioning in Mumbai. Both expressed their inability to depose, citing business engagements and that their passports had been revoked by the government.
Investigating agencies have filed First Information Reports, citing sections under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act and the Indian Penal Code, accusing Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi of money laundering in alleged connivance with some employees of the Punjab National Bank. The agencies have stated that Modi and Choski left India before the fraud was first disclosed by the bank.
