As many as 225 flights to and from the Mumbai airport were cancelled as the GVK-led private operator shut the main runway for pre-monsoon maintenance activities for six hours.

The runway will be un-operational on April 9 and 10 between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., Mumbai International Airport Pvt. Ltd. said in a statement. Besides the cancelled flights, at least 78 were rescheduled, according to statements by airlines.

The airport, the second busiest in the country, operates at close to full capacity. It has two crossing runways. While the primary runway can handle up to 48 arrivals and departures an hour, the secondary has a capacity of 35 movements per hour. On an average, 970 flights arrive or take off from the airport every day.

Here's the partial list of flights cancelled or rescheduled on the first day of the six-hour shutdown based on airlines' statements:

IndiGo, run by InterGlobe Aviation Ltd., didn't disclose the number of flights cancelled or rescheduled.
