RBI Monetary Policy February 2025: The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) met for the first time under new Governor Sanjay Malhotra on Feb. 5 to deliberate and discuss the current global and national economic situation and announce subsequent measures to tackle some of the key issues like inflation.
This will also be the first MPC meet after the Union Budget which was held on Feb. 1, which saw the government introduce new tax slabs. Most importantly, no income tax for up to 12 lakh per annum was announced to provide more income in hand and boost spending among the middle class.
Now, all eyes will be on the decisions of the central bank which is expected to announce a repo rate cut on Friday among other measures to boost Indian economy.

Monetary Policy: Date And Time
The RBI's MPC meeting began on Feb. 5 and will conclude on Feb. 7. RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra is set to announce the committee's decisions on Friday, Feb. 7.
Those interested in the MPC announcements can tune in to Governor Malhotra's live speech at 10 a.m. on Feb. 7. Following that, the governor and the deputy governors of the RBI will hold a press conference at noon on the same day.

Repo Rate Cut Expected?
High inflation, a slowing economy, a weak rupee and a softness in domestic demand are likely to push the RBI to go for a rate cut in its MPC this week.
Of the 28 economists surveyed by Bloomberg, 24 anticipate that the MPC will reduce the repo rate. Among them, Abhishek Gupta of Bloomberg expects a larger rate cut of 50 basis points, while the others are forecasting a 25 basis point reduction. The current benchmark lending rate stands at 6.5%.
