Men And The MeToo Movement

Men And The MeToo Movement
ADD BLOOMBERGQUINT TO HERO IMAGE

A recent survey by Bloomberg showed that the MeToo movement, which was meant as a clarion call for equality, had the exact opposite effect. Men avoided women at the workplace, in fear of being misunderstood.

While this survey was done on Wall Street, it leads to an interesting question back home, in how the MeToo movement is panning out.

Is going cold turkey the right approach? What supporting role can men play in shaping the way the movement turns out? These were some of the questions asked by journalist Barkha Dutt to actor Farhan Akhtar, politician Milind Deora, and comedian Cyrus Broacha.

They discussed the responsibilities that men should shoulder in such a situation, and how this needs to percolate to tier 2 and tier 3 cities, and not just remain an metro phenomena.

We The Women, a summit organised by Dutt at Mehboob Studios last month, was an endeavour to understand women's issues better. BloombergQuint was the media partner.
