Maruti Suzuki Ltd.'s shares rose after the carmaker's sales jumped 27.1 percent in January.
Total sales rose to 1,44,396 units from 1,13,606 units in the same month last year, according to the company's filing on the stock exchanges.
Domestic passenger vehicle sales rose 25.7 percent while passenger car sales rose 17.7 percent to 1,32,76 units. Sales were boosted by a 45 percent increase in exports to 10,462 vehicles.
Domestic sales for the month jumped 25.9 percent to 1,33,934 vehicles. Maruti Suzuki's compact segment – consisting of Swift, Ritz, Celerio, Dzire and Ignis – rose 25.2 percent to 55,817 vehicles. Sales of Ciaz, which constitutes the company's mid-size segment, rose 20.2 percent more to 6,530 vehicles.
Sales of utility vehicles including Gypsy, Ertiga, S-Cross and Vitara Brezza more than doubled to 16,313 vehicles.
The only car which saw a sales de-growth was the Dzire Tour. Sales dropped 15.3 percent to 3,001 vehicles.
December was a weak month for the automaker as it saw an over one percent decline in total sales, in the aftermath of demonetisation.
Shares rose 1.4 percent to Rs 5,979 on the BSE after the announcement.
